For Part 2 of this build series, we will be installing wheels, Tires and Lowering Springs. We’ll be diving into the choices and reasons as to why we believe these were the right choices.

Wheels

After going back and forth between brands, the wheels chosen for this build are the SuperSpeed RF05RR in 19x8.5 +35 squared. Not only is SupersSpeed a Canadian Brand (and one that we carry!), we chose this because of the exceptional quality at such an affordable price point. Comparing to competing brands, this flowformed wheel is on par with the weight (19.6 lbs each!), features bead knurling, JWL VIA tested and last but not least; beats the other brands in the price department!

Tires

With so many brands to choose from, Jay chose the Cooper RS3 Zeon-G1 to pair with the RF05RR. The Cooper RS3s are classed as an Ultra High Performance (UHP) tire, which competes with a lot of summer performance tires. Here at BMG, we tested these tires and know that they hold their ground and are incredible for the price. Being able to perform on dry, wet and light snow is a huge advantage for the 340, as we’re going for more of a “High Performance” daily kind of build. We went with a 245/40R19 to get a nice meaty sidewall that will help with comfort and give peace of mind on the road.

Lowering Springs

Now this is a subject of huge debate all over the forums and groups. Since this 340 came equipped with the M Adaptive suspension, we had to carefully pick out the right springs to not immediately destroy the Electronic Damper Control (EDC) shocks. After much research, we decided to go with Dinan Lowering Springs over the H&R, as the drop and spring rates are less aggressive. Dinan is considered an OEM + option, as it delivers a decent drop and retains the comfort. The Dinan bumpstops (Supplemental Ride Quality & Handling Kit) were also installed and there is an option to reprogram the EDC system with the Dinan Shockware for a sportier response. These lowering springs will also pair well with the Bilstein B6 Damptronic (Adaptive Compatible) shocks for when the OEM shocks will eventually go out.

All in all, these modifications really helped to improve the handling of this 340. The Dinan springs greatly improved the “disconnected” steering feel F30s have and stiffened up in Sport mode for tighter and more precise cornering. Overall the feeling is way more planted, the body roll has been greatly slashed and is still very close to OEM comfort. The Dinan Slackware has not been done, but we can only imagine this will help tie in and further stiffen up the suspension. The 19” setup of RF05RR on the Cooper RS3s is a far more comfortable choice and helps retain the comfort on our brutal Quebec roads.
